Dear people of St. Peter’s,

Meet Timothy and Polly B. They are a wonderful elderly couple who joined us at the virtual new member orientation earlier this month. Tim and Polly were members of St. John’s in Ambler, and are part of the Jazz Vespers crowd. They live in Erdenheim. Even though they have only been coming to St. Peter’s for half a year or so, they miss everybody terribly: the activities, the human touch, the joys of being together in God’s House. If you speak to Tim (a native of Tennessee), it will not take you very long to learn about the issue he’s most passionate about. Tim wants to do something about Climate Change. He is terribly worried about the future of our world and our grandchildren as he puts it. He has even developed several presentations about the issue and is looking for like-minded people. It is refreshing to see folks from his age group so engaged in that way. Polly is a sweet lady, one of those people who are impossible not to like, with a positive and people-affirming spirit, and a kind heart. If you haven’t met them in the short time they were able to come to church B.C. (before coronavirus), I hope you’ll have a chance to meet them when things look better again for all of us to come together. Tim and Polly have two children and two grandchildren. Their son runs several restaurants in Philadelphia and is trying the best he can to adjust to the crisis. Their daughter lives in the Altoona area with her family.

Yesterday I received great news about the beginning of our big community wide food drive. This came from Mary R. from Gwynedd Mercy University, which is part of our local network. She wrote: “Good morning, Good news – I sent a copy of the flyer to our Campus Minister.  He, in turn, posted it on the University portal.  This means that about 400 faculty and staff have received notice of the Community Days.  Some live in the area and will, hopefully, respond. Also, I was in Costco yesterday.  I noticed a lady in one of the aisles had a copy of the flyer.  I asked her if she was purchasing for Community Days and she said “yes”.  I, also, asked her which church she was with.  She said she didn’t belong to any church but she and her neighbors found the flyer in their mailboxes and she was glad to have learned of a way to help.  I hope others feel the same way. Take care, everyone. Mary”

That is exactly the kind of thing we hoped would happen: people in our neighborhoods joining the effort! The food drive began this morning at 7:00 a.m. and I want to thank Brian, Robin and Sharon from our Social Ministry Team, as well as all those who are volunteering time or donating food or money this weekend. The food drive will last all weekend long, every day from 7 in the morning until 7 at night. You can drop your donations in one of the big bins in front of the Fellowship Hall. Once again I’d like to encourage all of our graduates (from whichever school they are graduating) to send a picture to Jennifer Bodolus at dfm@stpetersnorthwales.org. We are preparing a nice picture show and a few surprises for “Graduation Sunday,” June 14.  We would like to have all the pictures by this Sunday. Please!!!

Here is some information for our long-time St. Peter’s members. I was informed this week that Cleo Hartman passed away on May 21 at the age of 81. She lived in the Schwenksville area. Her son Joe informed me that she had been an active member of St. Peter’s before my time and wanted to pass on the information. She will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery in Huntingdon Valley.

Mrs. B’s Children’s Hour will take place every Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m., starting on June 7. We encourage our families with young children to take advantage of this interactive program and to tell your neighbors with children about it.

Also, please don’t forget the Red Cross Blood Drive on June 8. Specific precautions are being taken and have been described in recent emails. Drive Details: Date: June 8th, Times:  2 – 7 PM; Your
